Making the most of the opportunities presented by the employee life cycle

Making the most of the opportunities presented by the employee life cycle

The care sector is growing – and with it, the pressure on organisations to attract, develop and retain qualified staff in the long term. This is precisely where forward-thinking human resources management comes into play.

The employee life cycle offers clinics, care homes and care services a structured approach to strategically supporting staff throughout their entire employment – from recruitment and onboarding to retention and development.

Prof. Dr. Christine von Reibnitz’s contribution remains highly topical, especially in light of the ongoing shortage of skilled workers: those who take a holistic approach to HR management not only strengthen their attractiveness as an employer, but also the quality of care.

How safe are medications—really?

How safe are medications—really?

The situation can quickly become critical, especially for patients taking multiple medications: interactions, adverse effects, and discontinuation of treatment are not exceptions, but everyday reality.
In the current issue of Heilberufe magazine (Springer Pflege), Anette Skowronsky wrote an article on the topic of medication safety.

In it, she shows how medications interact with other drugs, but also with food and beverages—and why a solid basic understanding of these interactions is so important in nursing care.

Caregivers are often the first to notice abnormalities—and they play a crucial role in identifying and avoiding risks.

Avatars in Nursing and Healthcare

In her article “Avatars in Nursing and Healthcare,” Vanessa Buchholz (née Skowronsky) discusses avatars in nursing and healthcare based on serious games.

She describes avatars as personalized, embodied aliases of the players (as opposed to agents, who serve as communicating or instructing counterparts).

The author emphasizes the benefits of avatars in particular: visual representation of current or future health status, encouragement of health-promoting behavior, and support for behavioral changes in prevention.

She also describes the Proteus effect: players adapt to their avatar through it. She refers to studies that demonstrate gradually positive effects, healthier eating habits.

Medical devices for patients with obesity

Specialist article by Prof. Dr. Christine v. Reibnitz,
published in “Heilberufe” 06/25

Prof. Dr. Christine von Reibnitz, MedConCap GmbH competence team

The number of obese people with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 40 is rising rapidly in Germany. However, care facilities, clinics and hospitals are often still inadequately equipped to deal with this. Beds, toilets, chairs and walking aids are usually not suitable for the strain caused by heavy people.

There is a high demand for specialized aids, as standard solutions are often insufficient. Technical support for positioning, transfer and mobilization is essential to ensure patient safety and at the same time relieve the burden on nursing staff.

In her article in Heilberufe (issue 06/25), Prof. Dr. Christine von Reibnitz explains which aids are necessary, how they should be used and what consequences a lack of equipment can have. Obesity is not only a medical challenge, but also a challenge in terms of healthcare strategy – with a significant impact on the quality of care and costs in the healthcare system.
